Mosley-Cano: Rocky Juarez Refuses Sergio Thompson
By Miguel Rivera
Promoter Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing, and super featherweight contender Sergio "Yeyo" Thompson (26-2, 24KOs), are very upset with the recent turn of events involving Rocky Juarez. According to Gomez, Juarez verbally agreed to face Thompson on May 18th at the Hotel Grand Oasis in Cancun, Mexico. The fight was going to be the co-feature to Shane Mosley vs. Pablo Cesar Cano.
Juarez (29-10-1, 21KOs) withdrew for unknown reasons. He contacted the promoters and gave them no explanation on why he was walking away from the fight. He stated "I do not fight," according to Gomez, and gave no complaints regarding money or weight or anything else.
Thompson is also puzzled at the move. A new opponent is being pursued for him.
"I do not know what reasons he has to give up the fight, that's up to him, but I had a well-defined program of work in training, trailored to his characteristics - so I had an enormous amount of confidence that I would beat him," Thompson said.
its somewhat surprising for me to see juarez become a journeyman. this dude looked like the goods 10 years agoComment by ddangerous on 03-22-2013
