Moses Returns 3/19, Eyes Chance At Second Title Run

By Jake Donovan

Former lightweight titlist Paulus Moses returns to the ring on Saturday, March 19, taking on journeyman Miguel Lombardo in a stay busy fight while awaiting word of a future title elimination bout.

The bout takes place at the Windhoek Country Club Resort in Moses’ hometown of Winhoek, Namibia.

“It is always inspiring to fight in my hometown,” Moses (26-1, 18KO) said. “These are my true fans.  They want nothing more than to see me regain a world championship, and every win gets me that much closer to that goal.”

Saturday’s showcase will mark Moses’ second fight since losing his version of the lightweight title in a one-sided sixth round knockout loss to Miguel Acosta last May.

The loss – his only one as a pro thus far - ended a 16-month stay as a beltholder, although he only managed one defense – a 12-round decision over Takahiro Shamida in the very same venue he plays this weekend.

His last fight also took place at the same location, a fourth round knockout of Sergio Prioto last November.

Promoted by Don King, the plan is to get Moses another crack at any of the lightweight belts. The Hall-of-Fame promoter is working on a future title eliminator, but in the meantime encouraged Moses to remain active rather than grow stale waiting for approval from any of the sanctioning bodies.

In doing so, King immediately gave his blessings when asked by Moses’ local promoter (Nestor Tobias) to have the fighter placed on this weekend’s card.

“I predict a knockout win for Paulus Moses on Saturday night,” King said from his office in Deerfield Beach, Fla.  “I want everyone in Windhoek to know that I am cheering with you for Paulus on Saturday.  Nothing would please me more than to have him fighting for another world championship soon.  He is a tremendous fighter.”
