Promoter Rogelio Espiño of Panama extended a proposal to Anselmo 'Chemito' Moreno to defend his WBA bantamweight crown against Venezuelan Lorenzo 'Lencho' Parra on June 18 in Panama. This fight suffered several postponements since the start of the year. The promoter is contacting Parra to see if he's physically capable of taking the fight. If the boxer is unable to fight, then Espino will look for another rated opponent at 118-pounds.
There has been a real strain on the relationship between Moreno and his manager Dr. Roberto Grimaldo. The champion is not very happy with being inactive for the last eight months and he appears to be a little bitter over Grimaldo turning down a four fight package worth $1.2 million from Golden Boy Promotions.
A few days ago he theatened to take Grimaldo to court in order to break the managerial contract. Grimaldo says the Parra fight is a good deal for Moreno, because the boxer will receive a a "tax free" purse of $100,000.
"If the fight would have taken place in the United States [with the Golden Boy deal] he would have lost a good portion of the purse to taxes," Grimaldo said.
