Monte Barrett: record, next fight and profile →
Boxer Shane Cameron will step back up into the heavyweight ranks to fight American Monte Barrett in Auckland. Cameron, who dropped to cruiserweight two years ago in an attempt to get a shot at a world title in that division, will take on Barrett at the SkyCity Convention Centre on July 5.
BoxingScene.com has been informed by boxing advisor Greg Leon that the heavyweight collision between his fighter Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett (35-9-2), and Shane Cameron (28-2), has been moved to July 5th. It was originally scheduled for May 30th in Auckland, New Zealand.
Kiwi boxer Shane Cameron (28-2, 21KOs) is going to make the most of his May 30th bout against Monte Barrett (35-9-2, 20KOs), the man who defeated Cameron's countryman and rival David Tua. The heavyweight bout takes place in Auckland, New Zealand. Cameron wants to erase the taste of his 2009 two round knockout loss to Tua.
Kiwi boxer Shane Cameron will return to heavyweight boxing on May 30 against the man who felled David Tua – Monte Barrett.
Heavyweight Monte Barrett (35-9-2, 20KOs) advised BoxingScene.com that he has reached an agreement to face David Tua (52-4-2, 43KOs) for a third time. The fight will take place in New Zealand next March with the 31st being the most likely date. Barrett defeated Tua via unanimous decision this past August and battled the fighter of Samoan descent to a controversial draw in 2010. He went on to say that he thinks a second victory over Tua will earn him a title shot.
Heavyweight contender Monte Barrett has come from his corner swinging over allegations he failed a drugs test following his last fight against David Tua. Last night 3 News revealed that Barrett had failed a drug test after the August 13 fight, and had tested positive to a banned stimulant; a fight which Tua lost sending him spiralling out of heavyweight contention.
According to a report by the Herald Online, David Tua's legal team is moving fast to have his recent loss overturned after Monte Barrett reportedly tested positive for the banned stimulant methylhex-anemine following a urine test after his August 13 in New Zealand. Barrett was nearly knocked out in the final round, but held on to win a decision over Tua after they fought to a controversial draw in the first meeting which took place in Atlantic City.
Sources in New Zealand have advised BoxingScene.com that heavyweight veteran David Tua (54-4-2, 43KOs) has been approached about the possibility of facing Monte Barrett (35-9-2, 20KOs) for a third time in early 2012. The fight could possibly take place in March. Tua fought Barrett to a majority draw in 2010 and lost a twelve round decision in their August 2011 rematch. Tua reportedly owes between $2 to $3 million dollars in back tax, so retirement is not an option. A third fight with Barrett could be Tua's biggest financial option at the moment.
Heavyweight contender Monte "Two Gunz" Barrett said he is heading to the World Wrestling Entertainment (WWE) training facility in Tampa, Fla. known as Florida Championship Wrestling at the end of October. The 35-9-2 (20 KO) Barrett, who is coming off a unanimous decision win over David Tua a month ago, said he will be there for two weeks to get his feet wet, then return for a two month full training camp to learn the in's-and-out's of professional wrestling.
As previously reported, cruiserweight Shane Cameron is pursuing a fight with heavyweight contender Monte Barrett. Cameron is willing to move back to heavyweight for a chance to accomplish something that his arch-rival, David Tua, was unable to do - beat Barrett. Tua knocked Cameron out in two rounds in 2009. After the loss, Cameron dropped down to Tua. Barrett fought Tua to a controversial draw in 2010 and won a unanimous decision in their recent rematch.
