Newly crowned IBF junior middleweight champion Carlos Molina recently spoke to BoxingScene.com about his title winning victory over Ishe Smith. While he is happy he finally won a title, he said that there is always room for improvement.
"I am glad that I finally got this title that I wanted for so long. I am never happy with my performances. I just want to get back in the gym and get back to work," Molina stated.
With Saul "Canelo" Alvarez losing his titles to Floyd Mayweather, Molina has suddenly became a viable option as a future opponent. Molina said that he has longed for a fight against the 23-year-old and hopes that his title will be enough to secure what would surely be a career high payday.
"I think so (that I am in the running). I always wanted to fight him before and I didn't have a belt before so they didn't want me so hopefully now they will want to fight me. I really want to fight Mayweather but I would be happy to fight Canelo," Molina revealed.
The Chicago resident also weighed in on the October 5th battle between former three division champion Miguel Cotto and Delvin Rodriguez. Molina is siding with the Puerto Rican and said that he would love to face him in the future.
"Cotto wanted to fight me before but they wanted me to have a belt so hopefully after winning this fight they will consider me now. I think he will beat Delvin Rodriguez," Molina told BoxingScene.com while also saying that he hopes to maintain a busy schedule.
"I want to be back in the ring this year. I think we should fight every two or three months. Why not? That is how they used to do it. As long as you are healthy."
