1. Floyd Mayweather - Former junior lightweight champion, former lightweight
champion, current junior welterweight belt holder. Floyd takes over the
number one spot after a lackluster performance from Bernard Hopkins. Blazing
fast hands and is untouchable on defense. Floyd never ran from a challenge and
has performed at his the best in his biggest fights.
Biggest wins: Diego Corrales TKO 8, Genaro Hernandez TKO 8, Jose Luis
Castillo W 12
2. Erik Morales - Former junior featherweight champion, former featherweight
champion, former junior lightweight champion. Morales is a tall rangy boxer
with a great amount of skill, but his downfall has always been his willingness
to abandon his boxing skills and get drawn into slugfests. He bounced back
after suffering the most depressing loss of his career in his third fight with
Barrera by gaining the most satisfying win of his career with a twelve round
clinic of Pacquiao. He is the classic Mexican warrior and that's why
fans love him.
Biggest Wins: Daniel Zaragoza KO11, Marco Antonio Barrera I SD, Manny Pacquiao
UD
3. Rafael Marquez - Current Bantamweight Champion. Keeps moving
up the list not because of dominating performances, but because everyone in
front of him keeps falling. One the hardest punchers pound for pound in the
sport. He is finally coming out from the shadow of his older brother Juan
Manuel. Rafael can box with the best of them, but he has the power to blast
them out as well. Some insiders feel that his chin is suspect and he can be
hurt by big punchers.
Biggest wins: Mark Johnson TKO 8, Tim Austin TKO 8
4. Manny Pacquiao - Former flyweight champion, former junior featherweight
champion, former featherweight champion. Pacquiao has won over many fans in
the last two years with his straight ahead let it all hang out style. A
murderous power puncher with extremely quick hands oh yeah and he's a
southpaw to boot. Some one-dimensional flaws were exposed in his fight with
Juan Manuel Marquez. Erik Morales followed up on what Marquez uncovered and
out boxed Pacquiao in their meeting. Pacquiao is still very young and seems
willing to learn his trade. Trainer Freddy Roach will make sure he continues
to grow as a fighter.
Biggest wins: Marco Antonio Barrera TKO 11, Lehlohonolo Ledwaba KO 6
5. Bernard Hopkins - Former undisputed middleweight champion of the
world. Ruled his division for a decade and made a record 20 title defenses,
but all of that came to an end against Jermain Taylor on 7/16/05. The
majority of viewers agree that it was more of Hopkins losing the fight than
Taylor winning it. Hopkins did not throw enough punches for the first four
rounds and that ended up costing him the fight. He doesn't fall far
considering when he did actually start letting his hands go, he was in control
of the fight and had Taylor in serious trouble on more then one occasion.
The rematch will answer a lot of questions.
Biggest wins: Felix Trinidad TKO 12, Oscar De La Hoya KO 9, Antwun Echols
TKO 10
6. Winky Wright - Former undisputed junior middleweight champion.
Up until last year, Wright had a reputation for coming up short in his big
fights, but he seems to have broken through with his win over Trinidad.
Wright put on a clinic against Shane Mosley to become the undisputed junior
middleweight champion. Proved he was the real deal with a dominating
performance against Felix Trinidad.
Biggest wins: Shane Mosley 1 Win 12, Felix Trinidad Win 12
7. Marco Antonio Barrera - Former Junior Featherweight Champion,
Former Featherweight Champion and now Current Super Featherweight Champion.
Just when you think Barrera is done he comes out like a madman and proves he's
still world class material. Barrera is a classy counter puncher who can also
go toe to toe with the best of them. Every time he has been beaten, he has
only comes back stronger and better.
Biggest Wins: Erik Morales III MD, Kennedy McKinney TKO 12, Naseem Hamed UD
8. Juan Manuel Marquez - Gifted counter puncher and about as well
schooled a fighter as there is in boxing. Showed plenty of heart by rallying
back after being knocked down three times in the first round against Manny
Pacquiao and going on to outbox Pacquiao for most of the fight.
Biggest wins: Manuel Medina TKO 7, Robbie Peden TKO 10
9. Diego Corrales- Former Junior Lightweight Champion,
Current Lightweight Champion. Arguably the hardest puncher pound for pound
in the sport. Since hooking up with Dan Goossen, his boxing skills have
improved ten fold. His chin is still suspect, but his power and heart make
him a threat to beat anyone regardless of how much trouble he's in during
the bout.
Biggest Wins: Roberto Garcia TKO 7, Acelino Freitas TKO 10, Jose Luis
Castillo TKO 10
10. Antonio Tarver- Current Light Heavyweight
Champion. A look at Tarver's record shows that he is 2-2 in his last four
fights, but you have to look deeper than that. Most people think he won his
initial meetings with Roy Jones and Glen Johnson. Tarver would go on to
score clean victories in both rematches. A tall lanky boxer/puncher who
sometimes tends to coast rounds, but when he decides to step it up and
actually fight he has the skills to beat anyone from middleweight
to light heavyweight.
Biggest Wins: Roy Jones KO 2, Glen Johnson UD, Eric Harding TKO 5
