Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer had advised BoxingScene.com that Johnathon Banks broke his thumb in training and the rematch with Seth Mitchell, scheduled as the HBO televised co-feature on February 16th at the Boardwalk Hall in Atlantic City - is now off.

Last November, Banks (29-1-1, 19KOs) scored one of the biggest upsets of the year when he dropped Mitchell (25-1-1, 19KOs) three times in the second round for a TKO victory. Mitchell exercised a rematch clause to secure the return bout. The Atlantic City card is headlined by WBC lightweight champion Adrien Broner, who defends the title against Gavin Rees. Golden Boy will elevate the WBC super middleweight eliminator, between Sakio Bika (30-5-2, 21 KOs) and Nikola Sjekloca (25-0, 7 KOs), to the televised co-feature slot.
Injured thumb? WTH? Somehow I just can't imagine Hagler or Liotta or Ali skipping a fight because they hurt their thumb. Boxers these days, kinda pathetic. I mean, this almost makes David Haye look brave for going ahead with a broken pinky toe.
he BROKE his thumb...
