Minsk Results: Rabchenko, Zhakiyanov, Relikh Victorious

By Alexey Sukachev

A trio of highly touted prospects displayed their talent yesterday in front of some local public at Moulin Rouge club in Minsk, Belarus. The show, which featured European light middleweight champion Sergey Rabchenko of Belarus, his hard-hitting light welterweight compatriot Kirill Relikh and Kazakh bantamweight contender Zhanat Zhakiyanov, was co-promoted by local organizer Valery Kaplya with assistance of Philippe Fondu and Ricky Hatton. All of their protégés were victorious.

WBC #1, WBO #4, WBA #4 and IBF #13 Rabchenko stopped Georgian veteran Gary Abajian (18-14-1, 9 KOs) in three rounds. A week before Rabchenko was involved in car accident. “Thanks God everything was ok at the end. I’m safe and ready for a fight”, tweeted Rabchenko after the accident.

Relikh, 23, knocked out his fourth straight opponent this year – another Georgian Mikheil Avakian (18-10-3, 7 KOs) – in five. WBA #10 and WBC #12 Zhakiyanov (21-1, 14 KOs) stopped game Ukrainian veteran Yuri Voronin (27-21-2, 18 KOs) in seven. Voronin, 40, has lost his twelfth straight, being winless for four years already.
