Froch, Hearn Discuss Landing Ward or Kessler in 2013

Carl Froch quickly turned his attention to a "career-defining" 2013 after seeing off American challenger Yusaf Mack with the minimum of fuss. Froch took over-matched Philadelphian Mack out in three rounds with two stinging body shots in Nottingham as he successfully defended his IBF super-middleweight title for the first time. Mack, who had moved down from light-heavyweight to challenge Froch, was a rare 'soft touch' on paper after Froch's incredible run of elite-level fights in recent years. Now, though, the evergreen 35-year-old is keen to nail down his plans for next year.

Promotional Kalle Sauerland of Sauerland Event doesn't expect Andre Ward to come to the table for a rematch with Mikkel Kessler. On December 8th in Denmark, Kessler (45-2, 34KOs) will face Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25KOs) for the vacant WBA "regular" title. The World Boxing Association has ordered the winner to face Ward, the "super champion" at 168, in six months. Sauerland sees a lot of possible options for the Kessler, if he wins, but not a fight with Ward. A more likely scenario is a rematch with IBF champion Carl Froch. Kessler lost an eleven round technical decision to Ward in 2009 and then won a twelve round unanimous decision over Froch in 2010.

The Viking Warrior (45-2, 34 KOs) received some ground-breaking news from the WBA Convention in Jakarta this week. The WBA has approved an application filed by Team Sauerland and ruled that the winner of the WBA Super-Middleweight World Championship between Mikkel Kessler and Brian Magee (36-4-1, 25 KOs) has to face Andre Ward (26-0, 14 KOs) within six months after their clash at Jyske Bank BOXEN on December 8. Ward holds the WBA´s “Super World” Super-Middleweight Title but has yet to make a mandatory defence.

Brian Magee will be looking to make it a hat-trick of stoppage wins in Denmark when he faces Mikkel Kessler in Herning on December 8. The Belfast bomber will be a huge underdog against the 'Viking Warrior' in his back yard but the veteran won't be overawed by his trip across the North Sea. Magee has already stopped Mads Larsen and Rudy Markussen against the odds, picking up European and the interim WBA super-middleweight titles along the way. And now with the full title on the line, Magee is looking forward to arguably the biggest challenge of his long career.

Super middleweight Mikkel Kessler spoke of his respect for Brian Magee but has insisted that he will not lose to the Belfast fighter in the WBA world super middleweight contest in Denmark on the 8th of December. Magee, 37, has recorded two victories in Denmark in recent years but Kessler says the Northern Irishman's Danish winning run will end. The two fighters went face to face for a second time, during a promtional stop in champion's backyard of Belfast, Northern Ireland.

WBA, WBC & WBO Female Welterweight Champion Cecilia Braekhus (21-0, 5 KOs) lived up to her billing as boxing´s “First Lady” with a spectacular points victory over French star Anne Sophie Mathis (26-3, 22 KOs). After ten exciting rounds, she was ahead 97-93 on all three cards. “This is the happiest day of my life,” she said afterwards. “Mathis was very strong, the toughest opponent of my career, but I found a way to beat her. This is my biggest win ever.”
