Former two-division world champion Mikey Garcia (34-0, 28KOs) began the year being positioned by Top Rank as a potential foe for Manny Pacquiao. But after his January 25th victory over Juan Carlos Burgos at the Theater of Madison Square Garden, he has been embroiled in a dispute with them.
After unsuccessful attempts to make a fight with Yuriorkis Gamboa (who then faced another Top Rank client, Terrence Crawford on June 28th), Garcia filed suit in April against Top Rank claiming that not only had his contract expired but that it was also illegal.
Since that point, Garcia - who has a sterling mark of 34-0(28 KO's) - has languished on the sideline with no resolution.
But according to Top Rank president, Todd duBoef - "I'm planning on meeting with him and Robert (Garcia) this weekend."
Top Rank is staging a card at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas that is being televised by HBO that features a main event between Tim Bradley and Diego Chaves. The hope is to get Garcia back in the ring by the spring of 2015.
"Hopefully, we're having some helpful conversations," said duBoef.
