Terry Flanagan is a wanted man. Fresh from his successful fifth WBO World Lightweight Title defence both Mikey Garcia and Vasyl Lomachenko have expressed a strong interest in fighting the unbeaten Mancunian.
‘Turbo’ extended the current longest unbeaten streak in British boxing to 33-0 on Saturday night with a one sided, controlled points victory over Petr Petrov at the Manchester Arena.
Speaking with ESNews the following day, WBC World Lightweight King Mikey Garcia reiterated his desire to land his third WBO World Title and unify against Flanagan.
“I want that WBO World Title! Terry’s a southpaw, experienced and definitely worthy at World level but in all honesty I’ll beat all of them. Petrov is a tough guy, he done what he had to do. I respect him. It would be a good fight.”
When quizzed if a trip to the U.K would be of interest, Garcia acknowledged if the deal was right he would be tempted but confessed he’d rather fight in the U.S.
“If the price is right, I’ll go to the U.K but I don’t think we need to go there. Let’s flip a coin! I have a big following,” he stated.
The 36-0 star, who has put together two sensational knockout displays back to back since returning from a period of inactivity due to promotional issues, is not the only pound-for-pound star to be linked with Flanagan.
Fellow southpaw Lomachenko successfully defended his WBO World Super-Featherweight crown against Jason Sosa on the BoxNation screens just hours after Flanagan defeated Petrov.
After his victory, the two-weight World Champion revealed his plans to move up in weight: “I am going to ask if we can get any of the 130lbs Champions. If they refuse, I’m going up to 135. I’d like to fight Flanagan in England."
