Mikey Garcia is certain Adrien Broner is making the same mistake that has cost most of his opponents.

The undefeated WBC lightweight champion thinks Broner looks at him and sees a beatable boxer who has no business being about a 3-1 favorite over him. Garcia expects Broner’s opinion to completely change once the bell rings Saturday night to start their 12-round, 140-pound main event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

Garcia (36-0, 30 KOs) predicted during Wednesday’s episode of ESPN’s “First Take” that Broner (33-2, 24 KOs, 1 NC) will be “surprised how good” he is once they square off in a fight Showtime will televise.

“I think when I get in the ring, all of my opponents see a different side of me, once they’re in front of me,” said Garcia, who was seated next to Broner at the “First Take” table. “They don’t see that outside the ring, on video, [from] previous fights. They just don’t see it until they get in the ring with me. I think that’s what he’s gonna experience come Saturday night, a whole different game once he’s in front of me.

“He’s trying to land punches, trying to do things, and I’m just able to counter and take control of the situation, take control of the round, take control of the fight in very easy fashion. He’s gonna be surprised at how good I am.”

Broner, a Cincinnati native who has won world titles in four weight classes, has drawn motivation from being viewed as a big underdog against Garcia. He just completed an intense training camp in Colorado Springs, Colorado, which was better than his typical preparation for fights.

“I think it’s gonna be a great fight,” Garcia said. “From what I’ve seen and hear, Adrien Broner’s in great shape, camp went well. He moved his camp to Colorado, so he’s focused, determined. It’s gonna be a great fight. I’m always 100 percent. I’m always ready to put on a great show.”

Showtime’s broadcast is scheduled to start at 9 p.m. ET/PT on Saturday night. In the opening bout, Houston’s Jermall Charlo (25-0, 19 KOs) and Argentina’s Sebastian Heiland (29-4-2, 16 KOs) will meet in a 12-round WBC middleweight elimination match.
