In a very revealing interview on his successful career in the sport of boxing, former heavyweight champion "Iron" Mike Tyson discussed the ups and downs of being one of the most recognizable fighters in the history of boxing. Tyson, 45-years-old, became the youngest heavyweight champion of all time in 1986, when he captured his first world title at the age of 20. He later unified the entire heavyweight division.

Tyson admits the instant fame and the millions of dollars in money would cause his life to take a dark road to drugs, alcohol, car crashes, multiple divorces and violent behavior inside and outside of the ring.

"I was an *sshole, a spinner, a madman, an obsessed madman, a retarded psychopath, an unrestrained piece of s**t. I was a smug slimeball. I thought I was the king of the world," Tyson told Speigel. "There will never be a boxer who swallowed more pills than I did. I never thought that I would make it to 30. I'm glad that I'm still alive. Boxing made me crazy."

Tyson, who has eight children with four women, lives in Las Vegas with his third wife Lakiha, daughter Milan and son Morocco. The fight has turned his entire life around.

"I only want to be a good father. It is important to me that my children have a good opinion of me, because I have no opinion of myself. I do not drink alcohol, I don't smoke, don't take drugs. I'm a vegan - no meat, no dairy, no eggs. I eat raisins, tomato soup and drink tea. Back then I was the opposite of what I am now," Tyson said.

I imagine a lot of this is his wife and management's influence, cleaning up his public image to make him marketable again. But in terms of moving forward, Tyson's said himself that the key is not to feed his own ego or have people around doing that.

Tyson continues to be a positive role model to his children. I'm rooting for him all the way

[QUOTE=CubanGuyNYC]I totally understand what you mean. The past few years, Tyson has been on a public self-flagellation spree. The coverage gets old after a while. But I must say that he appears to be sincere in his contrition. He knows more than anyone else what a despicable human being he once ...

Decent interview from 2000 with Ian Darke. Mike's too hard on himself these days.

Tyson seems to have a good heart but his mind s so far gone that it's hard for him to be coherent at times, although he came across rather logical and sincere this time. Happy New Year Iron Mike!!!
