Things looked rather bleak for Mike Guy in his bout against Jose Hernandez on Friday night.

Fighting away from home and looking like he was winded would be a recipe for disaster for the super middleweight fighter. Digging deep and with a sense of urgency, Guy was able to grind out a victory.

Guy won a six round majority decision over Hernandez at the Quiet Cannon in Montebello, CA. The bout headlined a six-bout "Battle of the Rising Stars" card, presented by All Star Boxing Promotions.

It was an even fight on paper as both fighters entered the ring with identical records of 6-1-1, with three knockouts. A victory would solidify the winner as a decent prospect to watch down the line.

Guy got off to a solid start, beating Hernandez on the inside with counter right hands to the head. Undaunted, Hernandez, from Palmdale, CA, was able to his best work in the second round, hitting Guy to the body.

By the third round, Guy dropped his punch output. It looked as though momentum would shift in Hernandez's favor because Guy had slowed down.

Guy, from Sacramento, seemed to find a second wind in the fourth round. He landed a left hook midway through the round that shook Hernandez, applying more pressure with each round. Hernandez's face began to look worse for wear, as he was cut on the bridge of his nose and above his right eye. As the bout progressed, Guy landed repeatedly to the head, reddening the face of Hernandez in the process.

One judge scored the bout 57-57, while the other two judges score the bout 59-55 and 58-56 in favor of Guy, who improves to 7-1-1, 3 KOs

Super welterweights Aaron Coley and John Hays fought to a six round split decision draw. The southpaw Coley (8-0-1, 5 KOs) was the superior boxer of the two in the first two rounds, beating Hays to the punch with counter left or right hands to the head. Coley momentarily stunned Hays (4-1-4) with a left cross followed by a right hook to the head in the second round, but Hays was able to recover. Hays aggressively began walking Coley down by the midway point of the fight. Although he had a reach advantage, he did his best to get on the inside of Coley's guard to land punches to the body. Coley began to slow down with each round, throwing in spurts and initiating tying up as both fighters were on the inside. Hays landed more with each passing round and had his best success in the final two rounds of the fight. One judge scored the bout 59-55 in favor of Coley, another scored the bout 58-56 in favor of Hays, and the third
judge scored the bout 57-57.

Tamis Long won a four round unanimous decision over Holden Read in a bout featuring heavyweights making their professional debuts. Long countered well to the head of Read with hooks and crosses as Read attempted to walk him down. Read landed overhand right hands to the head, but tired going into the final two rounds, allowing Long to continuously land the telling blows until the final bell sounded. All three judges scored the bout 40-36 in favor of Long.

In a fight featuring female heavyweights making their professional debuts, Keela Byar won a four round unanimous decision over Bridgette Davis. The bout had Guinness Book of World Records implications as Byar entered the ring reportedly at the age of 59. Davis weighed in the day before at 295 pounds. Byar was able to use her reach to land counter right hands to the head of Davis. As the bout progressed into the second half of the fight, Byar slowed down considerably, but still controlled the tempo of the round. Davis pressed the attack in the final round, landing more with rights to the head of Byar, but was not able to hurt her. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Byar, 39-37, 39-37, and 40-36.

Lightweight Adan Munguilla won a four round unanimous decision over Osman Rivera. While Munguilla (2-0) won every round, Rivera made him work for them. Munguilla landed the more telling blows throughout the fight and snuffed any rally or momentum Rivera (2-7-1) tried to make. All three judges scored the bout in favor of Munguilla.

In the opening bout of the All Star Boxing card, lightweight Luis Diaz won his professional debut by majority decision over Devonte Donaldson. Through the first two rounds, Donaldson (1-6) began each round well, beating Diaz to the punch, but slowed down midway through each round. Diaz landed repeated with counter or lead right crosses to the head. Both had their moments in the third round, but Diaz slowed down considerably in the final stanza and had to withstand a final flurry from Donaldson. One judge scored the bout 38-38, while the other two judges scored the bout 39-37 in favor of Diaz.
