Mike Alvarado Possible For Gamboa-Rios Co-Feature Spot

By Ryan Burton

According to Top Rank President Todd DuBoef, if he's able to finalize a lightweight battle between Brandon Rios and Yuriorkis Gamboa, he would like to place undefeated junior welterweight contender Mike "Mile High" Alvarado (32-0, 23KOs) in the HBO televised co-feature. DuBoef is currently negotiating with HBO to finalize a fight between Rios and Gamboa.

In that scenario, Gamboa would jump from the featherweight division up to the lightweight to face Rios on April 14th at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV.

DuBoef didn't have an opponent in mind for Alvarado, but said that his all-action style would be perfect for the co-featured slot to Rios-Gamboa and that he would talk to HBO about putting the  Denver, Colorado resident on the card.

Whether he defeats Gamboa or not, Rios will move up to 140 pounds after the fight. Alvarado would seem like a logical future opponent for the Oxnard based brawler.

Those are three exciting fighters so far on the card.
I hear that Cayo is trying to move down. Perez seems too green even at 28. Joan Guzman would not take this fight. How about Paul McCloskey?
Alvarado-McCloskey would be a good fight. If Mike wins, he'll have had wins…
The only realistic options at 140 in April for Alvarado are like Victor Cayo, Jhoan Perez, Mauric io Herrera, Joan Guzman, etc. I wouldn't mind any of those for April, but if he wins again, he should get a fight…
they better keep mile high away from lucas, i can see lucas brutally kOing mike without issues
I think Alvarado would be the slightly bigger guy. The power would be close to equal. I say its 50-50.
