Mijares Hopes Jhonny Gonzalez Clash Comes Through
By Salvador Rodriguez
As previously reported, a fight between WBC featherweight champion Jhonny Gonzalez (56-8, 47 KOs) and former four division beltholder Jorge Arce (64-7-2, 49 KOs) is now in serious doubt of taking place as planned for September 20th in Los Mochis.
There is a major issues with agreement for the broadcast rights. TV Azteca, who showcase Arce, are not wiling to share the rights with rival network Televisa, who showcase Gonzalez.
Gonzalez's promoter, Osvaldo Kuchle, has already met with Pepe Gomez of Cancun Boxing to discuss an October 4th bout in Cancun with former champion Cristian Mijares.
Mijares hopes the fight comes through.
"It would be an honor for me to fight a great champion like Jhonny Gonzalez. We know that the negotiations have started and hopefully will get some good news and fight for a world title," said Mijares.
Mijares is training very hard right now, in the event the Gonzalez deal comes together.
Another crap fight by a titleholder. These guys are seeking them out at this point. The cherry farm has more supply than demand.Comment by 285Kid on 08-23-2014
Arce? Now Mijares? Why this guy not fighting a top 10 rank guy at 126?Comment by ClassicBox on 08-23-2014
I think if Mares the #1 contender doesn't want to fight or exercise his rematch cluase then I think the # 2 contender Jayson Velez should get the shot at the title. Is it his fault his ranked number 2…Comment by PETUFF on 08-22-2014
