Miguel Vazquez: record, next fight and profile →
Lewis Ritson appeared to be handed a gift by the judges as he won a 12-round split points decision over Miguel Vazquez on the Matchroom show in Peterborough, despite appearing to be thoroughly outboxed.
The question was barely finished when Lewis Ritson roared his prediction. “Taylor,” he said in answer to who will win the fight between Josh Taylor and Jose Ramirez for the undisputed world super-lightweight title. Ritson has sparred Taylor twice recently, but he says he did not need that to be convinced the Scot is the best in the division.

Lewis Ritson believes having no crowd in attendance could lead to a better performance in his fight against Miguel Vazquez this weekend. Ritson (20-1, 12 KOs) makes his highly-anticipated return to the ring when he faces former world champion Vazquez (42-9, 16 KOs) on a Matchroom Boxing show live on Sky Sports and DAZN.

Lewis Ritson believes the extra few months graft in the gym locked away with trainer Neil Fannon will pay dividends in the long run. The Geordie puncher has felt the knock-on effects from the pandemic, which ruled out his planned fight with Miguel Vazquez twice, back in April and then again June, but he insists the extra preparation has taken his game to the next level.

Sky Sports announced its fall boxing schedule Tuesday, in addition to revealing the date for the Alexander Povetkin-Dillian Whyte pay-per-view rematch. The British sports network first will televise an intriguing cruiserweight bout between Mairis Breidis (26-1, 19 KOs) and Yuniel Dorticos (24-1, 22 KOs) on September 26 from Plazamedia Broadcasting Center in Munich, Germany.
George Kambosos Jr. and Lee Selby both entered 2020 with the hope of facing each other for the right to land a title shot presumably by year’s end. At best, their head-on collision will serve as their lone piece of ring action this year. The aforementioned International Boxing Federation (IBF) lightweight title eliminator has been rescheduled for the second time in barely two months due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic. Originally slated for May 9 and then pushed back to July 11, the scheduled 12-round bout will now take place on October 3 according to Matchroom Boxing, whom represents Selby and will present the event.
Whether or not he is one day elected into the International Boxing Hall of Fame, Israel Vazquez led a career that few boxing fans in this lifetime will ever forget. The former two-time World junior featherweight champion remains best remembered for his four-fight set with Rafael Marquez (even if most fans choose to only remember their first three). Most observers have a difficult time choosing their favorite fight among their first three meetings in March 2007, August 2007 and March 2008.
