Miguel Cotto: record, next fight and profile →
Boxing legend Miguel Cotto has vowed to go out with a bang as he enters the ring for the final time this Saturday night. The future Hall-of-Famer who has won world titles in four different divisions will fight for the last time against 2008 Olympian Sadam Ali, exclusively live on BoxNation.
Sadam Ali at least looked the part Friday afternoon. The welterweight contender from Brooklyn officially weighed in at a career-high 153 pounds for his 12-round, 154-pound title fight against Miguel Cotto on Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. His highest official weight prior to Friday was 151 pounds, for a four-round, unanimous-decision win against Martinus Clay in May 2010.
Canelo Alvarez, the worldwide boxing phenomenon who is currently enjoying a well-deserved vacation in Europe, sent a warm message to Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs), the only four-division world champion in Puerto Rico's rich boxing history and the current WBO Junior Middleweight World Champion, as he prepares for the final fight of his illustrious career against Sadam "World Kid" Ali (25-1, 14 KOs) at Madison Square Garden. The event will take place on Saturday, Dec. 2 and will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing® beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT.
NEW YORK – Freddie Roach figures it’ll be difficult for Miguel Cotto to resist the temptation to return to the ring after Saturday night. Cotto’s trainer is certain that promoters will try to lure back the four-division champion with seven-figure offers for high-profile fights, perhaps a rematch win Canelo Alvarez. The 37-year-old Cotto contends it won’t be hard to decline when those inevitable phone calls come for one very important reason.
With Miguel Cotto’s world title fight against Sadam Ali coming up this Saturday, many in the boxing world are sorry to see Cotto putting on his gloves for one last time - and promoter Frank Warren is among them. When asked by Steve Lillis during our BoxNation podcast, Frank stated that he hopes the Puerto Rican four weight world champion isn’t ready to throw in the towel just yet.
By Cliff Rold - If you wanted to make the case that former four-division titlist Miguel Cotto, now 37 years old, was already gone it wouldn’t be that hard. After taking all of 2016 off, Cotto (41-5, 33 KO) returned this year and Saturday enters what he says will be his farewell fight. His first start of the year came against Yoshihiro Kamegai, a tough and television friendly fighter whose only chanc...
This Saturday night, four division world champion Miguel Cotto (41-5, 33 KOs) will go out with a bang when he defends his WBO junior middleweight title against Sadam "World Kid" Ali (25-1, 14 KOs) at Madison Square Garden in New York City. The fight will be televised live on HBO World Championship Boxing beginning at 10:00 p.m. ET/PT. Ali, who is moving up from the welterweight limit of 147-pounds, is a huge underdog in the bout. Despite the one-sided appearance of the fight, tickets have apparently been selling well.

NEW YORK – Peter Nelson sees the Miguel Cotto-Sadam Ali fight different than odds makers and many who’ve criticized it. HBO Sports’ executive vice president touted it during a press conference Thursday at Madison Square Garden as the type of fight “that legends get made from.” That opportunity applies to Brooklyn’s Ali, who could completely change the course of his career by upsetting Cotto on Saturday night in what is supposed to be the final fight of the Puerto Rican icon’s career.
