Miguel Cotto Plans To Remain: I'm Not Finished Yet!

Austin Trout roughed up Miguel Cotto late to win a 12-round unanimous decision and retain his share of the 154-pound title Saturday night at Madison Square Garden. Trout remained unbeaten and used lopsided scores of 117-111, 119-109 and 117-111 to end Cotto's run as the undisputed champion of the New York fight scene. Trout (26-0) handed Cotto (37-4) his second straight defeate. Cotto dropped a twelve round decision to Floyd Mayweather Jr. in May.

After not giving a direct answer, Cotto made it clear that he would remain in the sport and not retire in the immediate future.

"I'm not finished yet," he said. "I still have boxing in my mind. I just want to rest with my family the rest of the year. I never make excuses. I accept my defeats and I learn from them and I just move forward."

Cotto should fight someone next that doesn't boast a 6 inch reach advantage. Jr. Middle is just a bit big for his frame. Mayweather should tread carefully too. He's small for the division as well.

I felt a little sorry for poor Saul Alvarez who lost another potential fight. He had that same sad look on his face at this fight like the one at the Lopez-Garcia fight.

Cotto is in it for the glory and that's why he fought Trout. He tried to get a big win and title off of a young, undefeated fighter that didn't look so menacing. Cotto won't stop till he gets that…
