Miguel Cotto - CompuBox Reviews Personal Bests and Opponents

by CompuBox

Is Miguel Cotto saving his best for last?  The 37 yr. old Cotto landed 251 power punches in his decision win over Kamegai in August, tying a career best that he established 14 1/2 years earlier in a tko win over former champ Cesar Bazan.  Cotto also threw a career high 839 punches vs. Kamegai, nearly 100 more than he let fly vs. Lovemore Ndou 13 years earlier.  Cotto's 339 landed punches vs. Kamegai ranks #2 all time for Miguel.

Taking full advantage of Sergio Martinez's lack of mobility, Cotto landed a career best 54% of his total punches  & 53% of his jabs en route to a KO win over the Argentinian.

Cotto took his lumps as well, as a prime Manny Pacquiao landed 336 total punches (28 per round) and 276 power shots (23 per round- most by a Cotto opponent), while Margarito landed 22 power shots per round with suspect gloves.

Floyd Mayweather said the Cotto was probably his toughest fight, and the numbers bear this out: Mayweather landed just 26% of his total punches vs. Cotto (Mayweather landed 44% in his career) and just 34% of his power shots (52% for his career).
