Peter Fury, the father and trainer of Hughie Fury (18-0, 13 KOs), has told BoxingScene that Mick Hennessy will continue to work with Hughie and that the 21-year-old still features on Hennessy’s show at London’s Wembley arena next Saturday.  Fury is pencilled in to meet Nagy Aguilera (20-9, 14 early) on the undercard of Nick Blackwell’s British middleweight title defence against Chris Eubank Junior, nothing has changed in that regard despite today’s news that he has signed a promotional deal with Frank Warren.

Fury's first fight under Warren’s guidance takes place on the undercard of Billy Joe Saunders’ WBO middleweight title defence against Max Bursak on April 30 at London’s Copper Box venue.  however, he must first eat what’s on his plate and ease past the America-based Dominican to kick off what could be a breakthrough year for Fury.

“Yes, Mick is always involved,” said Fury when speaking to BoxingScene.  “We will push on with the 26th as planned.”

“We are not going to rush him, we will guide him to the titles properly and then the whole world will see what he can do,” he added when discussing the career trajectory of his son.

This dovetails with an earlier interview with BoxingScene in which Fury stated that they will work with Hennessy throughout their time in the sport.  “I rate him very highly as a businessman, a promoter and as a friend,” Peter said when speaking to me in October.  “All our dealings with him have been done in our interests.  No one will take Mick’s place.  We’re a unit.”

Tyson Fury has reiterated this on a number of occasions, today’s news has not changed the Fury-Hennessy dynamic and they will continue to work together alongside Warren, who has worked with both parties on more than one occasion in the past.

Indeed, Tyson fought on BoxNation prior to his world title tilt so the omens are good for Hughie, who is highly-rated by the current world Champion.  I once asked Tyson what the future holds for the heavyweights, he pointed at his cousin and said: “Him, he is the future of the division.”  Lofty praise indeed, but Tyson had predicted his own ascension to the throne despite scorn from his critics so we well may see yet another Fury rise to the pinnacle of the sport’s flagship division.
