Michael Katsidis Tops Toowoomba Card on March 14th

Toowoomba boxing promoter/trainer Brendon Smith today announced the next installment of his highly anticipated promotion, ‘Smithy brings the big fights 6’ to be held at Rumours International Toowoomba. Smith, who recently re-joined forces with former two-time WBO world champion, Michael Katsidis, said this will be the biggest show the darling down’s has ever seen.

“We have put together an action packed card with great matches, one which will certainly bring the house down come March 14. Any of the fights that we have matched, could be main events on their own night, but we have none other than 2 time world champion Michael Katsidis ‘The Great’ topping the bill.” 

Smith said that local boxing fan favorites Jack ‘The Assassin’ Asis and ‘The Great White’ Brayd Smith are both set to take on international opponents with verbal contracts being agreed upon and are awaiting signed contracts before announcing over the next week or so. ‘The Great White’ Brayd Smith won the WBC Youth World title last time out in Toowoomba, meanwhile Jack Asis given a very controversial majority draw.

Smith also mentioned that heavyweight prospect Herman Ene- Purcell who is now set to fight NSW Rugby League captain Paul Gallen in late February, will also back up to fight on the Toowoomba card. Undefeated local welterweight, ‘The fighting fisherman’ Kris George and Victorian Light heavyweight Champion, Josh ‘The Hitman’ Webb will all feature on the March 14 show with opponent announcements to be made in the coming days.

“Once again we have great local business support with some of the biggest companies in Toowoomba on board with our latest installment of boxing on the downs. We are very proud to be working so closely with such business as Geiger Civil and Electrical, Hutchinson Builders, The Irish Club Hotel, Wises mobile Tyres, Mick Sutton Concrete, J&R Asian Groceries, K&R Plumbing Supplies, Wilkos Recycling, Mick Sutton Concrete, Sovereign Property Partners, Murphys Meringindan Pub, Sherriff Electrical, Toowoomba Truck Spares, Reedy Creek Recycling, Burke and Wills Hotel, Darling Downs Marine, Western Fleet Services, and Jezzbodee Stock Horses”.

Tickets to “Smithy Brings the Big fights 6” will be on sale on Wednesday from Smithy’s Gym where prices start at $55 for general $75 for ringside B and $95 for ringside A.

Well so much for retiring for heath reasons because he's got a family. The call of the ring is to much once you've been bitten by the boxing bug. I hope he is not anther tragedy waiting to happen.

Katsidis was never a full WBO world champion and interim titles don't count. Fight 1 more time in your homeland then hang up the gloves Michael you were a great warrior in the ring and thanks for all the wars…
