World-ranked lightweight Mercito 'No Mercy' Gesta of the Philippines will shake out at his Media Day at the Black House Gym on Wednesday, July 25.

Gesta, 25-0-1, 13 KOs, is getting set to take on Ty Barnett, 19-2-1, 12 KOs, of Washington, D.C. on Top Rank's 'The Future is Now' boxing event at Texas Station Gambling Hall & Casino, Las Vegas, on Friday, August 3. Gesta vs Barnett will battle in the main event on ESPN's Friday Night Fights.

Gesta, 24, said he got the nickname 'No Mercy" after his 10th pro fight. "My team gave it to me. I'm cool with it," he said.

He is rated IBF #10 in the 135-pound weight division.

"I actually started in Muay Thai and kickboxing when I was five or six years old," Gesta said. "My dad, Anecito, was a professional in Muay Thai in the Philippines. I saw boxing was more popular, so I went to a gym in Liloan, Cebu, to train. I did pretty well, so my Dad said I could box. I then moved to the U.S. in November, 2006."

Vince Parra, co-manager and chief trainer of Gesta, said the Media Day will begin at 6:30 pm.

"Everyone is excited. We will have a lot of media here," Parra said. "Then we will have an army of fans heading to Las Vegas for the fight."

Gesta vs. Barnett is part of a two-night 'The Future is Now' promotion at Texas Station. On Saturday, August 4, Diego Magdaleno of Las Vegas will defend his NABF Super Featherweight title against Antonio Davis of Atlanta. Magdaleno has a record of 22-0, 7 KOs. Davis is 29-7, 13 KOs. Telefutura will televise.

Tickets are $50, $25 for each boxing event. Fight fans can purchase a special two-night combo ticket. Two $50 tickets, one for each show, cost $75. Two $25 tickets, one for each show, costs $35. Tickets are on sale at all Station Casinos, The Fiestas, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or by logging on sclv.com/concerts.
Gesta should fight Broner
lmao, now id pay to see that. a 4th rate version of pacquiao vs a 2nd rate version of mayweather. ppl on here would pick gesta tho, but in reality its quite the mismatch.

No need to step up the competition, this is about right for Gesta from what I've seen so far. He still needs work and it's hard to do without drugs. He is also running out of time. Smaller fighters tend to burn out quicker than big ones, more competition, everyone doesn't get big.

Not really that impressed with Gesta as of yet. An ok Southpaw, does tend to get hit alot, but this is just the beginning of his career so will see. Would love to see him get together with Robert Garcia, Roach, or any elite trainer to work on a few things. Has potential IMO>.
