Floyd Mayweather Jr. was granted an extension by the World Boxing Organization to hold on to their WBO welterweight title. Mayweather unified the WBO/WBC/WBA titles when he won a twelve round decision over Manny Pacquiao last month at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
After the fight, Mayweather told press members that he planned to vacate his world titles (including his WBC/WBA titles at junior middleweight). So the WBO sanctioned this month's welterweight fight between Tim Bradley and Jessie Vargas for the vacant WBO crown - but then Mayweather's lawyer came forward and told the sanctioning body that Floyd had yet to vacate his title.
The WBO has given Mayweather until July 3rd to make up his mind as to whether or not he intends to hold on their welterweight belt. Mayweather is slated to return on September 12th at the MGM Grand.
