Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer of retired pound-for-pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr., believes Manny Pacquiao lied about the details of his right shoulder injury from last May, when he lost a twelve round unanimous decision to Mayweather Jr.
According to Pacquiao, he initially suffered the shoulder injury during training camp. Then during the fourth round of the contest, he aggravated the injury even further and it affected his performance.
Not everyone believes Pacquiao's version of the story, because there was no indication that he was having issues with using or throwing his right hand. The injury was not revealed until the post-fight press conference.
Pacquiao underwent surgery a few days later and the recovery process kept him out of the ring for the remainder of the year.
The entire situation became very confusing when Pacquiao's team members later stated that his shoulder injury was not initially suffered in training camp for Mayweather. According to trainer Freddie Roach and promoter Bob Arum of Top Rank, the issue with his right shoulder has been lingering since 2008, when Pacquiao stopped Oscar De La Hoya.
"Pacquiao already knows he’s gonna get whooped before he gets whooped. He already knows, the world already knows, what more is there to do? Here’s a man who knows he ain’t got a chance to win, he wants to sit around and tell lies about him hurting his arm. He never hurt his arm before, but it just happens to be one time that he was fighting somebody that could beat his ass, and that’s why his arm got hurt," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
