On Friday night four-divsion champion Adrien Broner defeated Mayweather Promotions fighter Ashley Theophane in 9 rounds in Washington, DC. The fight was a big commercial success as it is now the highest rated boxing event on Al Haymon's Premier Boxing Champions series on Spike TV.
Tensions during fight week ran high between Broner and Floyd Mayweather and his promotion company. Broner hurled several insults and referred to Mayweather's promotional company as "Hateweather Promotions" to which Mayweather firing back his own verbal volleys to FightHype.com which included him saying that Broner's AB Promotions stands for "Always Broke" as he was very critical to the fighter that used to refer to him as "Big Bro."
After the fight Broner said that he was tired of Mayweather constantly insulting him and said that the way to settle their beef is to square off in the ring. Mayweather has been retired since an unanimous decision victory over Andre Berto in September and currently doesn't have any plans to return to the ring.
BoxingScene.com caught up with Mayweather's father, Floyd Sr. today to get his thoughts on Broner's comments and desire to face his son in the ring.
"Oh man, listen. That is joke time man. You know that was April Fool's Day. Don't believe it. It ain't happening. It is not true," Mayweather Sr. told BoxingScene.com.
"All it is is for attention. I am telling you this right now - you can put this on the news if you want to - you tell Broner to come down here to the gym and I will whip his ass. I will whip the sh*t out of him. I will probably stop him. I ain't like my son. I will probably stop his ass. I ain't just standing here. I am standing here in front of all y'all. Y'all can tell him. Make sure it is known."
