Trainer Floyd Mayweather Sr. does not want his son to return to boxing but if he does, he would like to see him fight former four division world champion Adrien Broner (32-2, 24KOs).
Mayweather Jr. retired in September of last year after taking his record to 49-0 with a unanimous points victory over Andre Berto.
There was some speculation that Mayweather Jr. could go toe-to-toe with UFC superstar Conor McGregor, but Mayweather S.r believes any return to action would be unwise, with his son set to turn 40 in February.
"My understanding was that Floyd was coming back, but now we have to wait and see," he told Helen Yee Sports. "I just don't know right now. For boxing, right now Floyd is getting up in age. I wouldn't advise him to continue to fight.
"Why? He has enough money and he's smart with it. He has nothing more to prove. There's no reason to keep fighting. If he's going to make a comeback, pick the right opponent and then shut it down. Call it quits and leave that part of the sport alone.
"I know who I'd like to see him fight. Broner. They used to be friends - not anymore."
"They don't care whether he's old or young, they just want to see him fight," claims the 63 year old mentor.

Mayweather Sr. explained exactly why it would be unwise for his son to make a comeback to the ring.
"Even if you're training at this age, there are things that start to happen to a fighter that is guaranteed. Look at me. I'm still fast, but slower than I was last year. And every year, your reflexes are going to give…they're going to stop. You're not going to keep being fast, fast, fast like you used to be," Mayweather Sr. said.
"You're not going to be able to move like you use to move, and you won't be able to duck all the same punches like you used to."
Mayweather and Broner were once very close friends, but their relationship has become strained in recent years with Broner challenging Mayweather to a fight back in April. Legal issues continue to haunt Broner, who is currently in jail for 30 days after arriving very late, and allegedly hung over, to a court hearing.
