Floyd Mayweather Sr., father and trainer of WBC/WBA welterweight and junior middleweight champion Floyd Mayweather Jr., says he is very happy that a random drug testing system will be in force for the scheduled fight with WBO champion Manny Pacquiao on May 2nd from the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
For years, Floyd Sr. has voiced his suspicions of Pacquiao using performance enhancing drugs in past outings where the Filipino fighter brutalized opponents. Pacquiao sued Floyd Sr. and other family members for defamation and a private settlement was eventually reached.
"I am so glad that they are gonna take the random blood tests. Well, it’s good because we know Floyd aint doing nothing, so we’ll just see how he’s gonna handle it because he ain’t knocked nobody out in five years. Manny aint knocked nobody out in five years, check the record," Mayweather Sr. told On The Ropes Boxing Radio.
Mayweather Sr. did cover himself, stating that he doesn't believe Pacquiao would do any illegal for this upcoming mega-fight.
"Let me tell you something, even with the money he’s getting, the kind of money he’s getting, forty million or whatever, I don’t know exactly what it is, I know Floyd’s getting the big margin of it though. I can’t even see how he could even do something like that. I’m just saying that my thing is, I don’t think he will do anything like that. The amount of money that he’s getting, I still don’t believe he’d do that," Mayweather Sr. said.
