Floyd Mayweather is not getting involved in the ongoing war of words between former two division champion Paulie Malignaggi and UFC superstar Conor McGregor.
Malignaggi was hired as a sparring partner and was helping McGregor prepare for his upcoming professional boxing debut, taking place against Mayweather on August 26th from the T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Mayweather Jr (49-0, 26 KOs), 40 years old, retired back in September 2015 but announced his return earlier this year for one final fight with McGregor.
Last week, Malignaggi became enraged and quit McGregor's camp - after the MMA fighter's team members leaked photos of a recent sparring session to social media.
The images created a firm impression that Malignaggi was dropped and took a beating during the spar. Malignaggi maintains that he outboxed McGregor to the point where the MMA fighter pushed him down to the floor.
Mayweather is not looking to get caught in the middle of an ongoing feud but feels Malignaggi, who works for Showtime and Sky Sports as an expert analyst, is one of the best commentators in the game.
"It’s not my thing to get in the middle of their back and forth. Paulie is a friend of mine. I respect him as a fighter. He’s one of the best commentators out there because he has knowledge of the game. A lot of time we have commentators at fight shows who never fought a day in their life. I think its better if you get some type of training to know a little bit more about the sport," Mayweather said.
"I'm not saying they don't know a little bit about boxing, but its like a trainer working my corner, having my dad in my corner, having Roger in my corner. I need someone in my corner, that if I'm in a crunch situation.. and you cant give me the knowledge because you've never been in a crunch situation yourself. If you've had the experience then you can give me the information on what to do in a crunch situation."
