Undefeated pound for pound king Floyd Mayweather Jr’s strength and conditioning coach, Alex Ariza, believes a rematch with Mexican legend Juan Manuel Marquez would be best for Mayweather’s planned return to the ring on September 12 in Las Vegas. In an overseas telephone conversation with the New Standard/BoxingScene.com, Ariza said Marquez “is now a full-fledged welterweight and with ‘Memo’ Heredia working with him Marquez has got better and better” as evidenced in his crushing sixth round knockout of eight division world champion Manny Pacquiao.

Roger also says his nephew came into the fight with two injured hands. Floyd is expected to return on September 12th, and Pacquiao is likely out of the ring until 2016. A rematch, if it were to happen, would not take place until next May at the earliest - if Mayweather decides to fight again. Mayweather claims that he plans to retire after his fight in September.

A smiling Pacquiao, his right arm supported by a black sling, told reporters he hadn't yet decided on his future after his May 2 defeat by unanimous decision in Las Vegas. Showtime head boxing man Stephen Espinoza believes that Floyd Mayweather Jr.and Manny Pacquiao will fight again in a rematch of the Fight of the Century. “I think it can happen,” he said. If the fans want it. “Well, I think time will tell because this fight ultimately got made because of the two fighters wanted the fight and the fans wanted the fight,” Espinoza said, speaking after the incredible PPV figures were released for the May 2 fight. “If these guys see their way to get together again, and it’s something that most importantly the fans want, then I think it can happen. I don’t think it makes sense to have a rematch simply for financial reasons. It’s really got to be something that the fans demand and that the audience is calling for.”
Event handlers are still awaiting final numbers to see just how high the financial bar has been set by Floyd Mayweather’s 12-round win over Manny Pacquiao. The May 2 event at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas was already targeted to shatter all box office records, but current projections have Pay-Per-View numbers going through the roof. Mayweather was guaranteed a record $120 million long before a ticket, Pay-Per-View unit or sponsorship space was even sold. The pound-for-pound and box office king will likely add another $100 million in revenue upside in the coming weeks, as even conservative estimates have the event generating well north of $400 million.
