While there appears to be some thawing in the Cold War between Golden Boy and Top Rank with reports of both Oscar De La Hoya and Bob Arum having talks of staging fights together again, Arum seems to still be at war with former fighter Floyd Mayweather.
During fight week for the Manny Pacquiao and Tim Bradley fight, Arum took plenty of shots at Mayweather’s fight with Marcos Maidana and it all reached a fever pitch during the Pacquiao-Bradley post fight press conference where Arum called for a boycott of Mayweather’s fight.
“The only people that can make Floyd Mayweather fight Manny is the public if they boycott the nonsense on May 3rd. That’s when the fight will happen. Without any pre conditions on any side. That’s what the public should do. You want that fight? Tell your readers not to buy it on pay per view and not to buy tickets for it” said Arum.
While Arum had no problem dropping verbal bombs, Mayweather has taken the high road as he refused to engage in a back and forth with his former promoter.
“Only thing we can do is pray for Bob Arum. You know, pray for him. I don’t want to say anything negative about Bob Arum. I wish Bob Arum nothing but the best and we’re doing what we’re doing over here” Mayweather during his media day.
Mayweather faces Marcos Maidana on May 3rd on pay per view in Las Vegas, NV at the MGM Grand.
