Four months after smashing boxing’s pay-per-view records, Floyd Mayweather Jr. is keeping his expectations for pay-per-view buys of his next fight to himself.

Mayweather declined Wednesday on a conference call to commit to a number of buys he thinks his fight against Andre Berto will do Sept. 12 from Las Vegas. The Mayweather-Manny Pacquiao fight May 2 in Las Vegas drew about 4.4 million buys and generated well over $400 million in pay-per-view revenue.

The 12-round WBA/WBC welterweight  championship bout between Mayweather (48-0, 26 KOs) and Berto (30-3, 23 KOs), which will be produced by Showtime Pay-Per-View, will cost $74.95 in HD, $25 less than the unprecedented price for Mayweather-Pacquiao. The Mayweather-Berto bout has drawn criticism, though, because Berto is 3-3 in his past three fights and the undefeated Mayweather remains the best boxer in the world.

“All I can do is just hope we do good numbers,” Mayweather said. “That’s the only thing I can do. I can’t say no particular number, but we’ll just have to see.”

If the fight doesn’t perform well on pay-per-view, Mayweather still is guaranteed at least $32 million for the final fight of the six-bout, 30-month contract he signed with CBS/Showtime in February 2013.

“Nobody’s forced to watch,” Mayweather said. “Watch if you want to watch. If you don’t want to watch, don’t watch. Write about it if want to write about it. If you don’t want to write about it, don’t. At the end of the day, if you write good or bad, just continue to write. It’s keeping me relevant.”
