Gervonta Davis has dominated and knocked out two undefeated fighters within the past four months.

Floyd Mayweather Jr. still doesn’t want to “rush” the unbeaten IBF super featherweight champion into a showdown with the best boxer in their division. The 22-year-old Davis was asked after his third-round technical knockout of Liam Walsh on Saturday night in London what he thinks about boxing another talented southpaw, Vasyl Lomachenko.

Mayweather, Davis’ promoter, interrupted and answered for his precocious champion.

“Let me answer that question,” Mayweather said. “I said this before – there’s no rush. And as you guys see, Lomachenko has to rush. He’s 30 years old. I don’t know how old he is [29]. He has to rush. This kid is still young. There’s no rush. We’re gonna take our time. But one thing I wanna say is that we’re not ducking or dodging any opponent.

“But I want him to enjoy his night. We’re not focused on no other opponents right now. Eventually we’ll get to whatever name we have to get to next. Right now we’re not throwing any certain names out there. But we’re not ducking or dodging because one thing we do know – no matter who ‘Tank’ fight, he has the equalizer that could change the fight in a heartbeat. That mean he got dynamite in both hands.”

Ukraine’s Lomachenko (8-1, 6 KOs) is typically considered one of the top five fighters, pound-for-pound, in boxing. The WBO super featherweight champion seeks an opponent for his next bout, but Davis obviously won’t accept that assignment just yet.

Davis (18-0, 17 KOs) is unlikely to participate in a 130-pound title unification fight next against another champion, either. Mexico’s Miguel Berchelt (31-1, 28 KOs), the WBC champion, and Panama’s Jezreel Corrales (21-1, 8 KOs, 1 NC), the WBA champion, are set to make respective defenses of their titles against Japan’s Takashi Miura (31-3-2, 24 KOs) and Mexico’s Robinson Castellanos (24-12, 14 KOs) on July 15 at The Forum in Inglewood, California (HBO).

England’s Walsh (21-1, 14 KOs) was Davis’ mandatory challenger, thus the powerful southpaw from Baltimore won’t be obligated to make another mandatory defense until sometime in 2018.

Davis could face Philadelphia’s Tevin Farmer in an optional defense. Farmer (25-4-1, 5 KOs), ranked No. 6 by the IBF, and Davis got into a heated public debate following fights last month at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Maryland.

Mayweather didn’t mention fighting Farmer, either.

“There’s baby steps, so the next fight he fight could be a tune-up bout,” Mayweather said. “You know, keep him sharp, keep his tools sharp.”
