In their continued war of words, former five division champion Floyd Mayweather Jr. dug a verbal jab below the belt when discussing his ongoing feud with Golden Boy Promotions President Oscar De La Hoya.
During a recent edition of DJ Whoo Kid's popular "Whoolywood Shuffle" on SiriusXM, Mayweather tackled a series of subjects.
One of those subjects was the recent open letter which De La Hoya penned for the December edition of Playboy magazine. In that letter, De La Hoya criticized the career of Mayweather and also said the sport of boxing would become a better place in the aftermath of Mayweather's retirement.
Mayweather responded, hitting back pretty hard in a series of interviews.
De La Hoya, in a video interview on BoxingScene.com, vowed to end the war of words and called for immediate peace between the two fighters.
The two fighters have been traded verbal shots, on and off, since their record-breaking fight in May of 2007.
When DJ Whoo Kid asked Mayweather to provide the background for De La Hoya's critical comments - the unbeaten fighter blamed it on drugs and jealousy.
De La Hoya battled substance abuse for several years before cleaning himself up and turning his entire life around nearly two years ago. The former six division world champion has fully committed himself to work and family.
"With Oscar De La Hoya, sometimes drugs, jealousy [make you do things]....drugs and jealousy. I wish him nothing but the best. I'm just saying the reason he could be going after me......could be because of the drugs, because of the jealousy. That comes with the territory. Jealousy comes with the territory. But my job is to stay focused, stay in my lane, and do what I do. That's all I have to do," Mayweather stated.
