Floyd Mayweather Jr. (44-0, 26KOs) says everyone is building up WBC/WBA 154-pound champion Saul "Canelo" Alvarez (42-0-1, 30KOs) to unseat him from his throne, but after he defeats the 22-year-old star - the same people will make excuses on why Canelo was unable to win. Mayweather-Canelo will take place on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas. Canelo is taking a big step up competition and feels he is ready for the opportunity. Edison Reynoso, the manager of Canelo, says they were offered the opportunity to fight Mayweather a few years ago, but passed because they felt Canelo wasn't ready.
"They always build someone up to beat Floyd Mayweather. Every year, before every fight, they build someone up and then I knock them back down. They build these fighters up to beat me and then make excuses after I dominate...he's too small, he's past him prime, and with Canelo they'll say he wasn't ready for a Floyd Mayweather. Canelo is a good fighter, he's a world champion, but there are certain levels in boxing and he's never been at this level before. Fighters believe they can win [when they are looking at it from the outside] but when they get in the ring with me [they see] it's different," Mayweather told Lider Deportes.
