Mauricio Sulaiman, the Executive Secretary of the World Boxing Council, has been placed in charge of the sanctioning body for a period of 90 days. Mauricio's father, hall of famer Don Jose Sulaiman, passed away last week at the age of 82. Jose was the President of the sanctioning body since December 5, 1975.
During a discussion between various members of the Governing Board of the World Boxing Council, before they returned to their countries of origin, it was established that based on WBC's constitution and bylaws, the President's position, should it become vacant, would falls on whoever occupies the position of Executive Secretary.
The WBC's Board of Governors are scheduled to have a meeting from February 2 through February 7 in Shanghai to discuss which individual will take over as the permanent president of the organization. While there are several candidates, Mauricio is the popular choice and the frontrunner among many in the organization.
