Golden Boy Promotions CEO Richard Schaefer has advised BoxingScene.com that WBC interim-junior welterweight champion Lucas Matthysse (32-2, 30KOs) is very interested in facing his Aregentine countryman Marcos Maidana (31-3, 28KOs) - if Maidana defeats Jesus Soto-Karass on Saturday night at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

Maidana-Karass will take place on the undercard of Showtime's quadrupleheader, which is headlined by Saul Alvarez vs. Josesito Lopez.

Matthysse-Maidana has been brewing since the two boxers fought each other in the amateurs. They exchanged punches in a final eliminator where the winner moved forward to represent Argentina in a pre-Olympic tournament. Maidana was awarded the victory.

Matthysse's management told Schaefer that fighting Maidana is "at the top of their list."

Great fight, but I want to see Matthysse fight the other top guy at 140 right now, Danny Garcia.

I want to see this as a huge Lucas fan, but from a career standpoint IDK if he should take it. I want to see him in there with Garcia and even Khan as others have stated. I would be down for a move to 147 against Paulie or Ortiz, which would make for a great fight as well.
There's a reason nobody wants to fight Maidana at 140. Floyd Mayweather had a chance and he opted for Victor Ortiz, who Maidana dismantled in 8 rounds. Rather than take on the winner as every champion does, Mayweather took on the loser of that fight.
:lol1: Victor Ortiz h...
