Matthysse-Perez in Play For September 6, Showtime

By Ryan Burton has been advised by multiple sources that Michael "The Artist" Perez (20-1) is under strong consideration be Lucas Matthysse's opponent on September 6th. Our sources have cautioned that contracts have not been signed but an agreement has nearly been reached.

Golden Boy Promotions is planning a Showtime tripleheader that will also feature Adrien Broner and the return of Andre Berto in separate nights. Brooklyn and San Antonio are the cities most likely to host the event.

Perez has gone 5-0-1 since suffering his only career defeat, a stoppage loss to undefeated lightweight champion Omar Figueroa. Matthysse will represent a significant step up in class from Perez's last 6 opponents.
