Lucas Matthysse (34-2, 32KOs), the interim-junior welterweight champion of the World Boxing Council ( WBC ), has two objectives in view - to become the best pound for pound in the world and steal the night on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas . Matthysse will challenger full WBC/WBA champion Danny Garcia (26-0, 16KOs) on the Floyd Mayweather vs. Saul 'Canelo' Alvarez undercard. Matthysse hopes that a victor over Garcia will land him the opportunity to fight Mayweather next.
"I'm the best in the division and I can prove it by winning this fight. I'm looking to be the best pound for pound in the world. I have no doubt that I can end his undefeated run. I feel physically and mentally prepared. I know he's a good fighter, but I am confident that I will overcome him. He's had good fights, but I've fought many good opponents. Hopefully I can win by knockout and get the best win of the evening," Matthysse said.
"This is the fight that I was waiting a long time and I am very happy that it has been made. I know that the winner could be the next opponent for Mayweather and that motivates me. I would love to fight Floyd, but first I have to win the fight against Garcia and the winner will possibly get that ticket."
