Lucas Matthysse arrived in the United States this weekend as he will finish the last leg of his training on American soil instead of Argentina where he normally trains. Matthysse assures he has been working hard as he prepares for the biggest fight of his career against champion Danny Garcia.
Part of what makes this fight intriguing is both men are hard punchers and the fight can end or change at any moment. Matthysse, who just finished destroying Lamont Peterson in three rounds in his last fight, doesn’t see this fight going the distance.
“No, no. It won't reach 12 rounds. I know it won't go that far. I'm very confident and I know it will end before. I won't look for the knockout but I've prepared very hard like always. I'm going to come out to work and if it ends in knockout even better and if it goes to the cards, the same thing. I've worked very hard so that's why I know I'm going to get the result I want” said Matthysse.
The fight could be fought many ways but it’s hard to imagine these guys not standing and trading leather at some point in the contest. Garcia is known for his left hook that has damaged some of his recent opponents. Matthysse was asked if he felt his chin had been tested enough before and if he felt he could take Garcia’s power.
“I hope he attacks me. I know we're going to clash in the ring and it's going to be a great fight. Yes, I've been hit before and I've been able to handle it. I'm prepared to deal with all that and if Danny Garcia knocks me down, I'll get back up” Mattysse would tell BoxingScene.
Matthysse enjoyed a big media reception on Saturday evening and appeared very confident going into his fight with Garcia on the biggest stage boxing can currently provide. This fight is being just as heavily anticipated as the main event and will look to steal the show on September 14th.
