Polish cruiserweight Mateusz Masternak (32-2, 23 KOs) has joined forces with legendary German coach Ulli Wegner in a bid to revive his World title ambitions.

Masternak will train with Wegner in Berlin alongside current cruiserweight champions Marco Huck (WBO) and Yoan Pablo Hernandez (IBF). Wegner replaces former European Super Middleweight Champion turned coach Piotr Wilczewski.

‘’I am very thankful for everything Piotr has done for me,’’ said Masternak. ‘’He is a great coach but at this stage in my career I need someone with more experience in my corner. I am confident Ulli is the right man for the job.’’

Wegner boasts a wealth of experience having guided numerous boxers to World glory including Sven Otkke, Markus Beyer, Arthur Abraham and current cruiserweight kings Marco Huck and Yoan Pablo Hernandez. The 72-year old is confident that Masternak has what it takes to follow in their footsteps.

Said Wegner: ‘’Mateusz has impressed me with his attitude and his work rate. He is already a class operator, we just need to make a few minor adjustments and he will be ready to return to the world scene.’’
