Masternak's Trainer Expects Very Tough Test in Kalenga

Mateusz Masternak’s (32-1, 23 KOs) coach Piotr Wilczewski has predicted war from the first minute when ‘’The Master’’ faces Youri Kalenga (19-1, 13 KOs) for the interim WBA World Cruiserweight title on June 21st at the Monte Carlo Casino in Monaco.

Following his loss to Grigory Drozd, Wilczewski has guided Masternak to back-to-back victories against Sandro Siproshvili and Stjepan Vugdelija. In their third fight together the pair face their toughest assignment, an interim WBA World Cruiserweight showdown with the hard-hitting Youri Kalenga.

‘’In my opinion it will be a very tough fight,’’ said Wilczewski. ‘’It will be war from the first minute. But at this level, when you fight for World Championships, there are no easy fights.

‘’Kalenga is a very strong, aggressive fighter and he will be a dangerous opponent, but while we are aware of his strengths, we are not afraid. In training we have worked on many details that will make the difference in this fight. We will have some surprises in store for Kalenga.’’

Despite having only spent a short time with Masternak in his new role as head coach, Wilczewski is in no doubt over the potential the 27 year-old holds.

‘’Anyone who knows anything about boxing can see the potential Mateusz has,’’ said the former EBU Super Middleweight Champion. ‘’With a little more work, Masternak can reach the peak of the cruiserweight division, and if he keeps a cool head, he can stay there for a long time. But first he must beat Kalenga and that is all we are concentrating on for now.’’
