Former WBO super flyweight champion “Marvelous” Marvin Sonsona will battle Mexican brawler Leopoldo “Feroz/Ferocious” Gonzalez in a ten round bout sometime in the third week of September at the Hoops Dome in Lapu Lapu City, Cebu.

Well known promoter Sammy Gello-ani told BoxingScene.com/Daily Inquirer that Sonsona has been training hard in Cebu for the past few weeks and is determined to win another world title.

The 25 year old Sonsona who has a record of 14-1-1 with 12 knockouts himself assured the Inquirer that he is serious about his comeback and won’t make the same mistakes he made in the past.

His first mistake was in failing to make the super flyweight limit in his first title defense against Alejandro Hernandez on November 21, 2009 where he lost the title even before stepping into the ring where he was held to an unimpressive twelve round draw by Hernandez.

Sonsona won the title with a fine showing against champion Jose Lopez of Puerto Rico , scoring a twelve round unanimous decision in Ontario, Canada on September 4, 2009.

Gonzalez is an aggressive fighter who is expected to give the lanky southpaw Sonsona a tough time following a layoff of over 18 months.

The 28 year old Mexican has a record of 14-2-1 with 9 knockouts and is coming off a split draw against Ruben Lopez last March 18 after which he figured in a majority draw against undefeated hopeful Roberto Castaneda who had a record of 13-0 with 9 knockouts. Two judges scored the fight even while the third kudge Avelardo Palafox had Gonzalez winning by two points.
