Jesse Magdaleno, Jesse Hart Knockout Winners In Vegas

By Francisco Salzar

Jesse Magdaleno and Jesse Hart highlighted an entertaining undercard prior to the HBO cameras rolling at the Wynn Resort in Las Vegas.

In his most impressive outing to date, heralded super bantamweight Jesse Magdaleno (12-0, 9 KOs) stopped experienced Jose Silveira in the first round of a scheduled eight round bout. Silveira (12-9, 4 KOs) had faced top contenders and prospects in the past and was to have given Magdaleno rounds. However, towards the end of the first round, Magdaleno stunned Silveira with an uppercut, eventually dropping him with a barrage of punches. Silveira sat on the canvas, pawing at his nose, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to stop the fight at 2:59.

Heavyweight Brett Rather (2-0) won an unpopular four round majority decision over Avery Gibson. Both fighters fought well in the pocket, with both landing punches. As the bout progressed, it looked as though Gibson (1-3) was landing the more telling blows. One judge, as did Boxingscene.com, scored the bout 38-38, while the other two judges scored the bout 39-37 for Rather.

Lightweight Terence Crawford scored an impressive sixth round stoppage victory over Brazilian Sidney Siqueira. Crawford (19-0, 15 KOs) controlled most of the action in the fight, save for a couple of rights hands Siqueira was able to land. In the sixth round, Crawford stunned Siqueira (16-7-1with a left uppercut, finally dropping him with a right-left combination to the head. Referee Robert Byrd began counting, but waved the fight over at 2:47.

Super middleweight Jesse Hart stopped overmatched Joshua Myers in the third round of a scheduled four round bout. Hart (4-0, 4 KOs) landed the more telling blows to the head and body of Myers, whose face reddened as the bout progressed. Myers (1-1) would leave himself wide open after throwing looping or wild hooks or crosses. In the third round, Myers found himself on the seat of his pants after being pushed down to the canvas. Referee Russell Mora saw enough and stopped the fight at 2:01, despite protests from Myers.

In the opening bout of the Top Rank card, super lightweight Anthony Flores (3-0, 2 KOs) stopped Luis Hernandez in the third round of a scheduled four round bout. Flores dropped Hernandez with a short left hook to the top of the head in the opening moments of the first round. Flores continued to land vicious punches onto Hernandez, who had a better second round. However, Flores wobbled Hernandez (1-1, 1 KO) with a barrage of punches, backing him up to a corner. Flores followed up on a defenseless Hernandez, prompting referee Kenny Bayless to step in and stop the bout at 1:03.
