According reports in Puerto Rico, there is great interest from Mayweather Promotions in placing the Roman Martinez vs. Orlando Salido rematch on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather's upcoming return on September 12th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

The frontrunner to face Mayweather is former champion Andre Berto, and the fight appears to be heading to Showtime Pay-Per-View.

In one of the better fights of 2015, Martinez captured the WBO super featherweight championship with a decision over Salido on April 11th.

"We're trying to put it [on there]. [Mayweather Promotions] like it as a supporting fight for the card. They have to offer something to the Latin market," said Martinez's promoter Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing to Jose Sanchez.

Salido's manager, Sean Gibbons, confirmed that Martinez-Salido is being pursued for the Mayweather card.

Either way there should be some announcement this week on the rematch.

"The fight is signed, it's just missing a few details," said Gibbons to the paper. "Orlando is already training in Ciudad Obregon. I think both fighters are very satisfied with the agreement."
