According to promoter Peter Rivera of Puerto Rico Best Boxing, Roman "Rocky" Martinez (26-1-1, 16KOs) could possibly defend his title next against undefeated Diego Magdaleno (23-0, 9KOs) of Las Vegas. Martinez met his mandatory challenger Juan Carlos Burgos last Saturday in Madison Square Garden in New York City, which resulted in a controversial twelve round split decision draw.

Martinez felt that he should have won the fight based on his belief of having built an insurmountable lead before fading late in the fight.

"It was a great battle. I feel like I won the first eight rounds. These later rounds were the hardest. I got good shots in and I think that there may have been a factor of [me] wearing down in the later rounds, but the first half of the fight I won," Martinez told Lester Jimenez.

If the WBO orders an immediate rematch, Rivera and Martinez will honor the decision and face Burgos again. If the WBO rejects a likely petition from Burgos, then Magdaleno is a possibility.

"If they request it and the [WBO] orders it, we'll face him. [A rematch] would definitely be profitable, but you have to look at other fighters as well. Top Rank has several fighters like Diego Magdaleno, who is now going to be number one and he could be an opponent," Rivera said.
Martinez was drained and overtrained to make 130. He should move to 135 pronto or he will be bullied by a B fighter again.
 Fanatical Ricans. SMH!
