Juan Manuel Marquez has made it no secret that he has no desire to fight a fifth time with Manny Pacquiao who he knocked out in his last fight in the 6th round. Marquez decided to forego another rematch and instead started concentrate of capturing a world title in a fifth weight class.
Marquez’s trainer Nacho Beristain shares the same sentiment as his fighter as he has no interest in seeing both men fight again.
“No, no. I wouldn’t want to. They have fought 42 rounds and that’s enough for the people to find out they are both great fighters” said Beristain.
Nacho was then asked if he felt it was fair to give Pacquiao another fight as he had granted them rematches in the past. Beristain made it clear it’s not about returning the favor but more about making sure both fighters don’t cause permanent damage to each other.
“It’s not about that. It’s about being healthy and being able to think and thinking of your future and physicality. They’ve punished each other over 4 fights. It’s like Rafael Marquez and Israel Vasquez. Vasquez he ended up bad. A fighter has every right to think he has a future ahead of him with his family” said the legendary trainer.
If Marquez is victorious over Bradley, it doesn’t appear Pacquiao will be a viable option. Juan wants to keep the memory of that night and victory intact. However, there is one fighter that Beristain wouldn’t mind fighting should they come out the winners.
“Well, probably…I forget his name, the guy who fought with Brandon Rios…Mike Alvarado. That could be. I think after this fight, it depends on what happens, whether he wins or loses, he makes a couple defenses and he’ll leave” Beristain would tell BoxingScene.com
