Juan Manuel Marquez was pleased upon hearing the news that Miguel Cotto was pushing back his return to the fall.

The Mexican veteran is very interested in facing Cotto, but he was unable to prepare in time to fight the Puerto Rican superstar in planned return date of June 18th at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn.

BoxingScene.com reported on Friday that Cotto, due to his inability to secure a worthy opponent for HBO Pay-Per-View would push back his return to the fall.

Marquez has yet to officially decide his future in the sport. He's been inactive since May of 2014, when he won a twelve round unanimous decision over Mike Alvarado. Since then he's postponed several dates due to a ongoing issue with his knee.

He intends to make an announcement about his career in May, likely after the May 7th clash between Canelo Alvarez and Amir Khan.

"I'm already training, next month I will tell you my decision on whether or not I will fight," Marquez told ESPN Deportes. "Jessie Vargas has a title at welterweight , with Cotto you're talking legacy of professionalism, and a lot of things that could possibly be better than a title."

"For me [his postponement is good], because he would have a year of inactivity and for me I would have two years and some month. [With Cotto] it's about pride, about show who is the best. Fights between Mexico and Puerto Rico have been huge and this would not be the exception. It would be a great fight that fans will enjoy and the legacy of this fight would increase for each of the two."

If Marquez makes his announcement to return, he will begin negotiations for a fight with Cotto. He wants the battle of former four division world champions to take place somewhere between September and November, in Las Vegas or Los Angeles.
