After announcing the great boxing card of Promociones del Pueblo in the Zocalo CDMX, the double Mexican world champion, Mariana "Barby" Juarez, received an honor from the hands of Mr. Mauricio Sulaimán, recognizing her as the current international bantamweight champion of the WBC - an accolade she won from Mexiquense, Irma "Torbellino" Garcia, on December 18 at the "Oasis Arena Cancún.
So now, Mariana`s avowed aim, is the conquest of the absolute world crown , in order to become the first three-time Mexican world champion in the history of women's boxing.
Mariana, who`s homing in, is no stranger to titanic challenges. She`s fully aware of the formidable capabilities of Catherine Phiri, who`s the WBC bantamweight champion.
She also thanked Sulaimán, President of the WBC, for this great chance to pursue and grasp glory.
"This is the opportunity I was waiting for. With the help of God and my team, that belt will stay in Mexico. I know that Phiri comes from a country that is having a very bad time and that makes her even more dangerous, but I promise you that this championship will be mine and for all Mexicans."
The clash between "Barby" and Catherine Phiri, will top, guild and highlight the great card that Promociones del Pueblo will present on April 1, with the facilities generously granted by the Head of Government of the CDMX, Dr. Miguel Angel Mancera, and the invaluable work of Sulaimán.
The idea culminating in fulfilled pledge, is to offer a unique, fantastic and historic event for more than 50 thousand people at The Zocalo, where a host of personalities from the Worlds of art, politics and sport will be to the fore.
