Former champion Antonio Margarito (38-8, 27KOs) is ready to get back in the ring with Miguel Cotto for a third time. Margarito stopped Cotto in the eleventh round in their 2008 brawl. Cotto got revenge in the rematch with a ninth round stoppage in 2011.

Margarito retired after the Cotto defeat, due to a severe injury with his right eye. The injury was first suffered in his loss to Manny Pacquiao in 2010. A year later it didn't properly heal and rapidly swelled in the early rounds of the Cotto encounter. Eventually the ringside doctor had to call the fight.

Cotto defends his title on November 21 against Saul "Canelo" Alvarez.

Margarito announced his intention to return to the ring a few months ago. He recently met with Bob Arum of Top Rank, who promoted the Mexican star for many years. Arum wants Margarito to get medically cleared before a comeback is pursued.

"We will go next week, if I'm not mistaken on Monday, we will go to Utah to get the letter from Dr. Crandall. I will get the letter and there won't be any problems," Margarito told ESPN Deportes.

"At the moment there is nothing specific, Bob will work closely to see who we are going to fight. A lot of people are telling to do a fight with Cotto, but I feel that in next fight I just to want to look good. I said I was ready for November-December, but we'll see. [Arum] was interested [in my comeback], he liked the idea, he asked me when I wanted to fight. I've had 3 months of training and I'm at 160 pounds,. I told him I want to be at 154 pounds, then we talked about a third fight with Cotto, but he said he needed the letter [from the doctor]."
